I've partitioned my drive so dual boot XP and Win7. Running Windows Live mail on XP. Installed same on Win7.

The question is can I point the Win7 Live Mail at the XP Mail folders and collect email when I am in Win7. If yes, is this likely to cause any issues in XP when I am in XP and look at mail there?

If somebody has tried this and it works I will happily have a go myself - just didn't want to ***** up my mail experimenting.

    Thanks

I haven’t tried it but I don’t think you will be able to point the mail store to a common location. When you point the second installation to the first one it may either be overwritten or will require an empty folder. The same may apply when new mail is downloaded by one or other of the installations.

If your ISP allows mail to be left on their server, it's a simple procedure to receive mail on more than one machine:

    Open the Mail program then:
    1. On all PCs:
Tools > Accounts > Mail [mail account(s)] > Properties > Advanced Tab > Delivery and put a check in "˜Leave a copy of messages on server‘.

    2. On one PC:
Tools > Accounts > Mail [mail account(s)] > Properties > Advanced Tab > Delivery and select "˜Remove from server after XX days’ (choose as appropriate)

    3. Optional on one PC (if you delete mail when closing the program on Tools > Options > Maintenance Tab):
Tools > Accounts > Mail [mail account(s)] > Properties > Advanced Tab > Delivery and put a check in "˜Remove from server when deleted from Deleted Items‘.

    4. Send an email to yourself to check that it's working on all machines.

    5. Unfortunately, Sent Items cannot be synchronised with a POP account but you can circumvent this by including your email address in the Bcc (blind carbon copy) box when creating mail. Then, as the mail is received, simply drag it from the Inbox to Sent Items.

Why not just use Live Mail in both XP and Win 7 and make sure that both installations point to the same mail file location?

I am pretty sure that Live Mail will import the Windows Mail folders when you install it.

I have been doing this with MS Outlook with no problems.
