Hello all, im a newb to this site, and what a nice site it is.

I'm in the process of dual booting my machine w/ xp home and xp pro.
    .

I already have xp home installed, on its own hdd. I have a second hdd in place for xp pro. The reason for this is that I share comp with sis, and she has her own settings and resolution and all that. I need my own os so i can have resolution cranked up, and plus Im a gamer, I dont need spyware and other **** on it. my machine is clean for the most part, but this serparate hdd will serve as my game drive only and nothing else.

So what im here to ask is, do I set the first hdd to master w/slave, with the secondary to slave.

And just install xp pro on that second drive?

Also how can I get the message wich windows do you want to boot with, how do i got about finallazing the dual boot.

sry bout spelling, on comp at work, keys stick, and monitor is dim.

    thanks in advance

Go ahead and install XP on the second drive or partition. The install process will detect the other install and modify the boot.ini file accordingly.

Then when booting, you will be given the option to boot either system. That's a function of the boot.ini file that has been automatically altered to fit your situation.

It's much easier than you think and the install process takes care of all the details. Just do it and you'll see.

worked flawlessly, however when logged in on first/master hdd, and doing odd stuff like, surfing or checking email, it wil restart automatically, could the new hdd be adding to much heat to teh case, causing system to overheat and restart?

Check your data cables to ensure they are fully seated on all connectors. Overheating is not likely but check that the fans are all running. Could be a Power Supply problem.

Do you get a blue screen error or just a reboot?

Disable "Automatic restart" by right-clicking on My Computer and selecting >Properties>Advanced>Settings button in the Startup and Recovery area>untag Automatic Restart>OK out of there.

With that disabled, you may get an error screen that will give some clue about the failure.

Also check the Event Viewer for any errors listed at the time the system reboots.
