My friend has an HP with Media center edition on it. He installed the recovery console but now wants it removed so I removed it but he still gets the black screen with Windows XP highlighted just before the splash screen. Is there a way to skip that screen? He is also getting this error message at start up Ati Video Poller Catalyst Ati2evxx.exe Application Error 0x7c911639 0x008b3005 Memory cannot be read. I already went into msconfig\startup and unchecked that startup item but he is still getting the error. I even tried System Restore. Anyone hqve any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks.

For the boot menu open msconfig and click on the boot.ini tab. The safe way is to get rid of it is to just change the timeout to 0 seconds.

The not so safe way is to edit the boot.ini itself. Be careful though. Don't mess with it unless you know what you're doing. ;)

As for the ATI thing, there's a service that, by default, runs at startup. It's called Ati Hotkey Poller. Maybe that's causing the problem. You can disable it by clicking start>run and type services.msc. Look in the list for Ati Hotkey Poller. Double click on it and then where it says startup type select disabled.

I've run mine both disabled and on automatic in the past and have never noticed any difference. My guess is that it has something to do with using various video related hotkeys while playing games. It's only a guess though. I could be wrong as I haven't really done any searching to find out just what it does. Like I said, I couldn't tell the difference with enabled or disabled.

Thanks I'll try your suggestion. I edited the boot.ini but didn't change the time out to (0) seconds. I didn't disable Ati in services should have thought of that but didn't. I'll post back and let you know what happened.
