Hello Gidget and Welcome to WindowsBBS!

The virtual device manager DRVNDDM.SYS or NULLO belongs to the software NULLO by Sonic Solutions (www.sonic.com) or Software Architects, Inc or VERITAS Software, Inc (www.veritas.com).

First, hold down the Ctrl + Alt keys, and strike the Delete key. This brings up Task Manager. Click the Processes tab. Click once the words 'Image Name' at the left column top to sort the entries. Locate DRVNDDM.SYS, highlight it with one click, and then click 'End Process' at bottom right. Agree to end the process.

Second, go to Control Panel, Add/Remove programs. Locate and Remove this entry: Sonic RecordNow!Sonic Update Manager

It may request additional entries to be removed as well. Do so.

    Reboot.

If you cannot find the entry in Add/Remove programs, please download HijackThis: http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html

Place it in a new folder and un-ZIP the file. Then run the program. Ask it to Scan. Then the Scan button will turn into a button to produce a Log file. Do so. Highlight the contents of the Log and paste it back to the Forum.

    HP RecordNow?

    Hi Bill,
    Thank so much!!
I ended the process from Task Manager, but did not see the Sonic Record now program on Add/Remove programs. I do however, have HP Record Now, which is tied to my HP CD burner. Could that be the software I need to remove?
    thanks!

    HP Record Now

    Hi Bill,
I removed the HP Record Now software from my programs list. I assumed it was safer than having it on there and continuing to crash.
Was your HP Record Now program causing this issue on your computer? Should I just can the entire CD burner or were you able to find another fix so that you could continue to use it?

    No it was not.

You might go to the HP site and see if there was an update.
The version I installed came with an HP DVD burner, and is fairly new.
I seem to remember on the HP site for my son's HP computer an update to the program.

It is not at all clear to me that the program is even needed. If you like, check for the updates. If found, and installed, and the issue resurfaces, come back to the forum and let us know.

I will give you instructions to remove just that troublesome element as an experiment.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.
