Would like to remove some functions not needed, such as: Mobile Option Pack, Net Meeting, Mapping Network Drives.. (No mobile device and don't operate within a network)

Is it correct that MS put a "troll under the bridge" by connecting the sum of all the parts into the core files, making it unwise to remove anything? If memory is correct, the component particularly mentioned is "MSN "...Thanks!

I wouldn't do it. You have little to gain and some of that stuff may remove components that you need elsewhere.

The understanding of the component integration of XP will take some time and it's best left to others. ;)

Given that you really didn't ask for my opinion, I'll amend this post by saying, if you remove any features from XP, use the Add/Remove feature of Control Panel and always have good backups in case something goes awry.

    inf folder

The INF folder has the "SYSOC.INF" file that HIDES things from ya. First however, you must have SHOW HIDDEN files & FOLDERS enabled to view the inf folder. Path is C:\windows\inf
Open the sysoc.inf with notepad & look for the lines that have hide in them. You may edit these (caution) & these componets will then show in "add/remove programs" EXAMPLE:pinball=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,pinball.inf,HIDE,7
you can remove hide back to the coma, leaving 2 comas between inf & 7 save/exit, go to add/remove & pinball can be removed now.:D I've removed msn & msmsgr as well
