I loaded an old version of "Cd Creator" from Adaptec (roxio). I then received a error stating:
"A CD-recording driver is installed that might cause stability problems, including problems shutting down and problems using a CD/DVD drive. This driver will be disabled. "

I now get this any time I reboot. The message appears with an icon in the system tray. I just "x" out of it but it's annoying. How do I get rid of it? I've uninstalled the program but the message still appears.

    Help

    Thank
    Paul

This same problem occurs on some brand new Gateway computers with Roxio installed. And removing the software does not solve the problem.

Since I don't remember the details, all I can do is give general advice.

If you have any Roxio software installed now, you will need to uninstall it. Roxio is difficult to uninstall completely. You may want to check their website for downloads that aid in the uninstallation.

I went to Device Manager and found a driver for the Roxio/Adaptec software. It may have been hidden so click the View button and show hidden devices. It should be there somewhere.

Right-click on the driver and Properties. Click the Driver tab and Driver Details button. Highlighting each file in turn, write down the names of the ones that are Roxio/Adaptec. Close the dialog, right-click and remove the driver.

Then go to Start>Run, and type: regedt32

Go to the Edit button and Find. Search the registry for any occurence of those files and remove them. If I remember correctly, there were 2 files, but there may have been more.

This eliminated the startup error and the tray notice.

Then, throw away your Roxio CD and get Nero.
