I have a Windows 2000 SP2 Dell notebook connecting to a Windows NT4 SP6a server on 10/100 network. I map drives from the notebook to the server. After about 15 minutes the drive icons have red x's and I cannot access the drives. If I click on them once or twice they reactivate.

The problem is that my application (Commence Database) polls every few minutes for new data and syncs the server and the notebook. This sync reports errors once I lose the drive mappings.

I have been to the MS site and have tried using the "net config server autoedisconnect" option on both the Win2000 PC and the NT4 server but to no avail. I used both the 65000 limit and the "-1" option to disable. Any thoughts?

Did you restart the Server service (or reboot)? Perhaps map the drive using NET USE with the /PERSISTENT switch or use Dfs instead. Can the application handle UNC paths?

Thanks for the response. I did try what you suggested but to no avail. Question - What is "Dfs" that you suggested?

Bmayer - you never did respond directly about using UNC links rather than mapped drive letters. If your app will allow them, it should solve your problem.

DFS = (usually) Distributed File System which is sort of a Win2K AD thing. If you need more info, go to the M$ Online Help section and search for Distributed File System.
