    Steve,

    Thank you for your reply.

They are both phanton drives that do not exist anymore. They were the old type zip drives. I checked the "device manager ". They don't show there. they are just the icons on "my computer ".

    Thanks again.

If you right click on em do you have an option to delete or disconnect? If, try em.

    Hi Steve,

No, unfortunately that cannot be done. That would be too simple. I have been "playing around" with this for some time and tried a variety of things without success. It is not a case of doing any harm to the computer as much as irretating that I cannot solve this problem. Maybe my biggest problem is the fact that I am 74 yrs. old with too much time on my hands? Waiting for the weather to improve to the point that I can go out and play golf.

    John

If they were USB Zip drives go into Device Manager and remove/uninstall all the USB controllers and Root Hubs and reboot to let Windows detect and load them again and remove any phantoms.

If your comfortable looking in the Registry, take a look at this key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\DriveIcons

If those drives are listed there, right click and delete the key for each.

The go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\MountedDevices and delete the drives in question there.

    Reboot.

I would be comfortable looking at the register if I would know where to find it and getting into it. Would you be kind enough to let me know?

    Thanks,

    John G.

    P.s.

When I followed your suggestion and pressed delete, Their was a message that stated "remove key and all sub keys?" Since I have severall drives with letters after that key, I decided to abandon that idea. "Chickened out ".
The phantom drive letter does not show in the mounted devices.

I will live with the phantom drive listed.

Thank you for trying to help me.

    John G.
