    Hi All
Thanks in advance for taking the time to read this. My disc drawer keeps opening and closing. This has been going on for a couple of weeks. It comes and goes, no specific pattern or time. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the device to no avail. It does not happen in Safe Mode, but Ewido, Spybot S&D and CCleaner found no viruses. However, AVG Free found "Trojan horse Downloader.GEneric2.AZM found in C:\WINDOWS\browserextras\pn\remove.exe

Has anyone heard of this before? Do you have any ideas as to why my CD writer \ DVD is acting possesed? Are these 2 things related? Again thanks for the help!

    Hi PeteC

    Thanks for the warm welcome!:D
Also thanks so much for the speedy response! What she described is exactly what I am experiencing. In fact, now to think of it, my kids were messing with it the day it started. Explains a lot! Can you help me with this:
    Your help is GREATLY appreciated.:)

To expand on the quote from my post in the other thread - and forgive me if this is too basic .....

Remove the case side from the computer - generally the left hand side will do.

Identify the CD/DVD drive in relation to it's position on the front panel.

On the rear of the drive you will see two connectors - a flat ribbon cable and a small white (generally) plug holding 3 wires - this is the power supply.

Pulling the power supply off the drive - sometimes a little stiff, will stop the opening and closing - no power = no action :)

To replace the drive pull off the ribbon cable connector from the rear of the drive.

You will see that the drive is held in with 2 scre_ws each side - remove these - you will probably need to remove the other side of the case first - and slide the drive out of the front of the case.

Replacement is the reverse of the above operation.

When replacing the ribbon cable take care not to bend any of the pins and note that the cable has a red marker down one side - this goes adjacent to the power supply. Generally it is not possible to insert the cable the wrong way round as they are 'keyed'. Read the notes which should accompany a new drive and ensure that the jumper (small shorting block) on the rear of the drive is set in the same position as the old drive - probably Master, possibly CS - Cable Select.

If you need more post back, but note it is close to midnight here and I am logging off until the morning.

Well, you were right, it was quite simple to replace the drive. Just a matter of screws and plugs, no big deal. :) And the replacement was about $50. We have not had the issue since. Thank you so much again for your help PeteC. :)
