"Drive Cleaner" and "WinAntiVirus"

Even after getting a new hard drive, I still have problems

I keep getting popups for a program called "Drive Cleaner" and then dialog boxes that warn me about not scanning my drive and blah blag whatever

I also have that WinAntiVirus spyware thing again...but I Googles "DriveCleaner Spyware" and they seem to both be linked to eachother. I can't even surf the net anymore because the pop-ups take over my current window

I've updated and scanned my computer with Spy Sweeper, Ad-Aware, Spybot, Norton Anti Virus, and Registry Mechanic...my Registry Mechanic isn't registered though

Hi and sorry to hear you're infected. But there is a fix for this, please do as instructed below.

Before we proceed we need to disable SpySweeper, it will interfere with any 'fixing' we do with HJT.
To disable SpySweeper:

Open it, click the Options tab, then the Program Options tab and uncheck load at windows startup.
Then click the shields tab and uncheck home page shield and automatically restore default without notification

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter "; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool "; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Sorry I didn't get back to this more timely.

Please go to http://virusscan.jotti.org , click on Browse, and upload the following file for analysis:

Then click Submit. Allow the file to be scanned, and then please copy and paste the results here for me to see.

Be patient as this site is usually very busy.

Also please submit the file to Norman Sandbox File Submission. A valid email is required but there is no worry as the site is fully trustful. They will send you back a details analysis of the file and please post contents of the analysis back here.

OK, it looks like SmithFraud missed that variant, so it may be new, that's why I'm asking for the scans, so e can find out for sure and have them added to the databases.

Lets try another SmithFraud fix and get an Ewido scan working please.

You may want to print out or make a copy of these instructions before starting, because you will not be able to connect to the internet during most of this fix.

Download smitRem.exe and save the file to your desktop.
Double click on the file to extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:

1. Restart your computer
2. After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3. Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4. Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen. Your desktop and icons will disappear and then reappear again --- this is normal.
Wait for the tool to complete and Disk Cleanup to finish --- this may take a while; please be patient.

Restart your computer in normal mode.
Please post a new HijackThis log as well as the log from the smitRem tool, which will be located at C:\smitfiles.txt.

Let us know if any problems persist.

As for an Ewido scan...I don't know what Ewido is...is it a program or something? I wasn't sure, I skipped that part

I restarted in Safe Mode and did the smitRem thing, except there were no screen prompts like you said. I just ran the RunThis.bat and it created a new folder within the smitRem folder on my Desktop...I also saw no smitfiles.txt

Well, this is rather embarrasing......

It would seem I have been providing you with the wrong fix!!

You have a Vundo infection not a SmithFraud and this is why the fixes have not worked.

My sincerest apologies for this seeing as we have wasted your valuable time and probably gotten you a little bit more frustrated to boot.

Lets try the correct fix this time.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.

• Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
• Put a check next to Run VundoFix as a task.
• You will receive a message saying vundofix will close and re-open in a minute or less. Click OK
• When VundoFix re-opens, click the Scan for Vundo button.
• Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
• You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
• Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
• When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
• Turn your computer back on.
• Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.

OK, last one should go easy.

:arrow: Reboot, into 'Safe mode', run HJT, and place a check next to the following lines, then, with all browsers and windows closed, hit 'Fix checked':

Search for, and delete, if found, the following files/folders:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\kbdnce.dll <<<--this file

Reboot, run HJT, if the above are gone, no need to repost with new log.

We have 3 more things to do, to help ensure you have removed all the little 'leftovers' which may be hiding:

Empty the TIF (Temporary Internet Files)
Delete all the files in (and any subfolders of) the C:\Windows\Temp folder
The app below will help with temp files.

Also, delete all your cookies, and empty your recycle bin. But remember, by deleting your cookies, you will have to re-enter any passwords and log-in info for any sites you are usually required to do so with.

This would also be a good time to set a new system restore point for your machine.
Set New System Restore Point. Do not do this unless there are no other user accounts to be diagnosed.

Also, as you are an XP user, if there are any other accounts on this machine, they too, must be cleaned with AdAware, Spybot S&D, then HJT. Not all infections are global, nor are all the HJT fixes global. You can post each user account here into this thread, but please, do only one at a time to avoid confusion.

To further prevent the installation of ad/mal/spyware, DL the apps below, which are just as good the fight against ad/mal/spyware as AdAware & Spybot S&D:

SpywareBlaster
With SpywareBlaster v3.5.1 , just DL, install and check for updates, enable Internet Explorer protection, and your done! I don't recommend using IE restricted sites protection as it's not a very large database. Use IE-SPYADs below.

To avoid known malware infested sites from loading in IE install IESPY ADS.
And MVPS Hosts File will accomplish a similar tactic and provide another layer of protection.

And to prevent unknown applications from being inserted to start up on your machine install WinPatrol v10.0.1.

Another thing I would suggest, is to install SiteAdvisor. It gives sites a few different 'ratings' and while not fool proof, a good additional layer of information about many sites.
