i have a client whos son is going to go to nti for drafting (cad) and he wants to buy a laptop for him. this is what i suggested but want to know whether there is another option.

    intel i7, windows 7 64bit, 1g graphics, 6g memory, 500g hard drive

so my question is is a very high end dual core 2 better than the i7 for drafting or is the i7 or i5 the better choices.

i7 is the best, high performance quad core CPU.

Most i5's are dual core (except 760, 750S and 750 which are quad core)

yeah thats why i configured him a 1g graphics card so with the i7 processor this should be a really good machine for him. although not cheap.
