I'm running WinXP sp2 and lately find that my CPU cycles are running high. I think the problem is related to the DPC Placeholder process which shows up on Iarsn TaskInfo - trial version. It appears to be a known problem related to video card usage and I first noticed it happening as a result of my son playing Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 on my workstation. Rebooting back then seemed to fix it until he played again.

Now it happens from restart right away, although not as bad still quite noticeable. Have run a few anti-virus programs & Rootkit revealer as well as HijackThis and no baddies reported. But this morning the problem doesn't seem to be there.

    Anyone deal with this successfully?

Not a fix, but may provide some clues to what is gnawing on your cpu cycles.
MS Windows RATTV3, an audit tool for developers. ...
RATTV3 is installed by running RATTV3Setup.exe.

Oddly enough I've found that by shutting down one of my daughter's computers the problem has gone away. I am now running adware/spyware/anti-virus pgms on her machine to get it less troublesome to my network.

Up until now Zone Alarm has kept problems on other workstations from bothering my own, but at least I've found the solution to the problem.
