    Hello from Australia.
I occasionally use IE when my other browser gives me downloading problems, and when downloading multi-part files IE always adds a number in brackets at the end of the filename.
    It drives me mad!
I found a reference to this issue elsewhere but no solution.
    Here's what that 'elsewhere' said:

"Files have a number added to the end when saving
When saving an image called apicture.jpg for example, Internet Explorer 5 sometimes adds a number in brackets to the end of the filename, apicture[1].jpg in this case. This is apparently bug - the code that determines if there is another file of the same name on your computer is broken and always returns yes, so it always adds a number to the end of the filename to prevent the overwriting of files with the same name. "

    So that's it.
    Anyone know of a fix?
    Thanx and regards,

    scoopyx

Hello scoopyx and welcome to the Board,

Its been a long time, but IE5 can be repaired - in the Control Panel and IE settings. You can also get a copy of IE5 SP2 here http://www.oldversion.com/

You should really be using IE6.

    Regards - Charles

Could you give an example, other than your .jpg example?

You say the files are multi-part. Could you provide an example of four or so entries:
    • Listed as they appear on the remote website
    • Listed as they appear when downloaded in your directory
