My downloads folder disappeared. Replaced it with a generic folder. How do I get the "official" icon back?:(

If you mean the folder is still there with its contents but its appearance has changed, right click the Downloads folder and in the menu that opens, left click Properties.

In the window that opens, go to the Customize tab, click the "Restore Default" button, click OK.

    See if that works.

Check your recycle bin also. Mabey you deleted it on accident.

When you eventually get it back, change the settings in Properties> General to Read Only and that should keep it..
