downloading problem

I tried to download certain files and all it says is "NOT SIGNED "and "COULD NOT VERIFY FILE" I've tried adjusting security settings but it didn't help. I'm using AOL and I've also downloaded netscape 7.0 to use as my browser and still same messages. Any suggestions? Thanks

 

Not really sure what you are asking. What specifically is the problem?

You have "Check for signatures on downloaded files" checked in the advanced section of Internet Options. So, you will be warned when a file has no signature or an invalid signature. This is a good thing!

Not all unsigned files are bad, though. There can be any number of reasons why perfectly good and safe files may be unsigned----the author didn't get around to it, someone didn't feel like paying for the verification service, or simply an attitude of "If you trust my site, then you'll trust my files. "

If you know nothing about the author or site, avoid downloading potentially risky files. If you trust the site, then don't worry about it. An unsigned download from Yahoo or Microsoft is nothing to be concerned about. A similar file from "Anarchist hackers" or some other such name ought to be regarded with suspicion.

Good judgment will prevail.

Uncheck the option if you really can't stand the messages, but they do serve as reminders that we need to pay attention to what we are doing.
