    Hello All -

Suddenly I am unable to download anything from the Internet. I have been trying to download a program for about a week now and it just isn't happening. I haven't found any websites that I can't access - I just can't download anything.

I am running WinXP Pro, IE6 and CA's eTrust F/W and A/V. I have made the changes that are suggested in the "Information for XP Service Pack 2 users" one encounters when downloading. i.e.:
    • Automatic prompting for file downloads - Enabled
    • File download - Enabled
When I click on a link to actually download something the progress bar advances, albeit very slowly, until it gets about halfway across, then "The page cannot be displayed" window pops up. The f/w icon in the taskbar shows some activity but it isn't steady.

I have a DSL connection so speed shouldn't be the problem. I have also updated and run Spybot, Ad-aware and my AV. Nothing of consequence was found by any of them.

I'm relatively new to XP so I have no idea if this is an XP or IE problem but I do wish those folks up in Renton would quit trying to protect us from ourselves with all of this "security" nonsense. They're almost as bad as the U.S. 'Guvmint'.

As always, any and all help is greatly appreciated. :)

For starters, suggest you have only one firewall running; you may need to turn off XP's.

    Thanks for the reply sparrow.

The XP firewall has been turned off since I installed eTrust EZ Armor.

I'm not sure what has changed but all I have done lately was to update MS Office 2000 and I don't THINK that could have messed me up.

Would go next to the spyware forum and follow directions there.
If nothing like that turns up, think you should consider a 'repair install' of windows.
