Windows Vista downloading movies

Help i am trying to download from my jvc vidio camara to my laptop, as instucted by the vista guide i connected the firewire cable turned on the camara and waited for import vidio box to show and nothing!!!!!!!!! any ideas??

 

When you plugged your camera in for the first time, did Vista recognize it and install, or prompt you to install, the drivers for it?

Also, how old is your camera, and how old is the software CD that I will go ahead and assume came with your camcorder.

Some devices (I'm not saying yours is one of them) require for you to install the drivers and/or other software BEFORE you even connect the camera to your computer! Is there anything you read as to that if or when you looked through the guidebook?
