A friend of mine asked me a interesting question yesterday about Genuine Advantage.

He was wondering if it is possible to download "Genuine Advantage" and save the "program" to disk in order to check a computer that is NOT connected to the internet.

What my understanding is, is this. He would like someone to download the "program" needed and save it to a disk so he can check his computer.
He is not connected to the internet but would like to know if his copy of Windows is legitimate or not...
I've already told him how he can easily tell, but still, he would like to run the program itself....

Does anyone know if it is possible??? I've checked everything I could find on the subject, but it only talks about a computer that is connected... I can not find anything about saving anything....

I am also wondering if I were to just copy the "Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool" file out of my "x:\windows\Downloaded Program files" and save it onto a disk, if that would work or not....

Phil Liu of the MS team that answers WGA questions on the WGA forum posted the above, installing WGA manually.

Don't know if the WGA validation tool itself would work without an internet connection, but with it installed you could also download and run the WGA diagnostics tool, which does not need an internet connection to run. It will test both Windows and Office.
