This problem is common to both XP Pro and Win98 SE on this machine. Both using same version of IE6.

I attempted to get a new version of Nero from their site and new printer drivers from HP. Tried from both XP and 98SE.

    Both sites are FTP sites.

When I clicked on the file to download it goes nowhere.

Tried Nero on my Wifes' machine ( using 98 SE/IE6 )and all went very well. Got Printer drivers using her machine also. Thank goodness my LAN is working.

Using the address optained from the other machine I tried typing it in and got " page can't be displayed "

:) Now, can someone tell me what I messed up :)

You could check Security in Internet Options. If you have chosen a custom level, be sure that the setting for file downloads is enabled.

Ports 20, and especially 21, should be enabled in your firewall for ftp. If you are using a firewall, try disabling it to see if that is the problem.

Check to see if XP's firewall is running.

If using a router, check its configuration to be sure ftp is allowed.

Thanks for the ideas. Haven't messed with it too much yet.

Am trying to get other things checked out so that if I do have to start over I can get it done before the 30 days.
