    Hi Ramona:

Whenever I use Mozilla 1.4 for downloading files, the download manager adds the extension .na2 to the .exe or whatever file I download. And I can't seem to open the file with anything I know or install an application. Double clicking on it takes me to the browser and I get caught in a loop. What could I do to get rid of that extension? I tried renaming the file and it didn't work.

    I hope Ramona won't mind.
    Go Edit>Preferences>Netscape>Helper Application
See, if you have "application/octet-stream" listed there, and if "extension" underneath says ".na2 ". If so, highlight that "application/octet-stream ", and click "Remove ".

I just noticed, you are using Mozilla, but a solution should be very similar. I'm not that familiar with Mozilla, but look under "Preferences ".

    Hi Moorty,

There seems to be a lot of that going around. I am seeing it on all Netscape Forums.

Most users are successful with this workaround:

    Do a "Find" for mimeTypes.rdf
    Delete the file

Check Edit | Preferences | Navigator | Helper Applications for an octet-stream listing. Verify that the extension type is ".na2" and delete it.

Let us know if you are successful.

    Ramona :D

    Hi Broni & Ramona:

Thanks for your help. Your suggestion worked. Ramona, the file mimetype.rdf doesn't exist on my computer. But the other suggestion worked. Thanks again.

    Hi Moorty,

I think Broni and I were typing our replies at the same time. Glad that the fix worked for you.

The file is mimeTypes.rdf, and it's found in your salted folder. If I could only type!

    Hi Ramona:

I found the file in two profile folders. Now that I solved the problem anyway, should I still delete the file in both the places?
    Thanks.

    Hi Ramona:

    I won't then. Thanks again.
