    Delete this key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Plugins\Extension\.exe

    (if it exists).

If brett's QuickTime bug fix doesn't work----

Do you have a dl manager installed?
    Home or Pro?
All file types or just some?
Is "Save Target As" still available on right-click and does it work?

Check your Internet Options, Security tab. If your security settings for the Internet zone are set to "custom ", be sure you have not checked to box to disable downloads, or set it to "default ".

Also, try checking this reg key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Zones\3

The 1803 REG_DWORD should have a value of "0" for enabled, and "3" for disabled.

I'm out of ideas. Any new browsers installed that have their own dl managers, like Opera or Netscape, that may be interfering?

How about an overzealous popup stopper set to close dialog boxes?

You could try a repair/reinstall of IE:

    Made IT !!!!!

Before I began 'How to Reinstall Internet Explorer in Win XP' I thought I should use 'Restore Files and Folders' {forgot I was running XP} to an earlier date than I tried before, New{ Xmas }2/25/02}; WOW everything fell in place, a little outdated, but I can handle this. Thanks for encouragement keeping me going !!!

That's great. Better than starting from scratch. Better mark the calendar for manual restore points.

I was wondering if you would be able to download IE if you chose to, and whether you could get ie6setup.exe in your email if I sent it. Did you happen to notice if you were able to receive email attachments?
