    Hi,

I am using the Netscape 7.1 and often find that the download manager is unable to launch applications that I download, and recommends I save to disc. How do I do that with the download manager? This is not obvious

    Welcome to the Forum, sakols!

    Hi sakols,

The download manager should enable the correct buttons at completion of the download. If it does not enable the "Launch File ", the work-around is to select another file, and then the current file again.

Launch File only works if there's a helper application associated for the particular filetype, i.e., WinZip for Zip files, etc.

There are numerous bugs which address this, and other Download Manager issues. I found a list of 56 related Bug Reports. Perhaps these problems will be addressed in the next Mozilla or Mozilla Firebird Releases.

    Thanks for the response.

IF the download manager can't launch the file, how can I get at the file to launch it myself. I can't find where download manager stores the downloaded files.

My Documents is a good place to start looking. Failing that, if you have the name of the file, you search for it using find.

    Hi Dan,

Do a Windows "Find" for the downloaded file. If you know the file name, then do the "Find" using that file name, e.g., NSSetupB.exe

In the future, what you can do is create a specific folder on your HD for Downloads. You can be creative with the folder name, or simply name it "Downloads ". My Downloads Folder is C:\Downloads.

You might rather use the Progress Dialog rather than the Download Manager, which is what I use:

In Edit | Preferences | Navigator | Downloads
    Disable: Open the Download Manager
    ENable: Open a Progress Dialog

See this Screen Shot. This is where you select the folder location for the file. As you can see, I have selected the NSSetupB.exe for download. Once the file is downloaded, you can then run the executable, or unzip the file.

Let us know if you have more questions.
