    Hi,
I am updating/reinstalling a few computers tonight. They will all have service pack 2. Instead of goin to windows update on them all I thought i could just copy the updates to a flash drive and go round with that as it would be much faster than using my slow connection speed. I downloaded xp sp3 update (300mb!) and tried it on one. It went well but then after that i went to windows update and it still says I need a few 100 updates. Can I download all current updates onto a flash drive and use this instead?

    Help is appreciated, Thanks!

    Gut instinct: No, you can't.

Personal experience says that those extra updates are only triggered when Windows detects that a service pack (say, 3) has been installed, but doesn't have the hotfixes and security updates to bring it current.

You shouldn't be able to download those until/unless you have SP3 installed.

. . . Just anecdotal, mind you, and I'm sure someone can come along and give a better answer, but thought I'd offer my experiences in the meantime.

You can manually download them through Windows Update Catalogue, but you may have a problem identifying which are required. Another point to bear in mind is that some updates/patches have to be installed in a particular order.

How to download updates that include drivers and hotfixes from the Windows Update Catalog

Could try Windows Update Downloader noted here - not used it, but found on Google.

    Or from here .....

Windows service packs & updates for Windows XP, Windows Vista, Server 2008 and Windows 7
