Whenever I download a program update file from a www site that also installs the update, my OS or Netscape add the extension .jpg to the end of the file. It seems to happen with only ".exe" type files. Other downloads are normal. The file will download to the Windows "temp" folder, but it also adds the extension ".jpg" every time. Then I get the error message below.. when it try's to install the "update' (file name changed to "update" for clarity).... (because of the added .jpg extension it thinks it is a image file.... it is not.)

The image "file:///C:/WINDOWS/TEMP/update.exe.jpg" cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

I than must open Windows Explorer and rename the file by deleting the ".jpg ". All works as it should from that point on. I am using Windows 98 SE and Netscape 7.02.

    Thanks

    Hi drhans2

    A re-occuring problem for the N7's...
Go to your Helper Applications. Look for a "octet-stream entry" ending in .jpg... Clicking on the entry will display all of the helpers attributes. Once located, DELETE it.

I only have one listing for "octet-stream entry" and it was for a .jpg file, only other listing is "text/html" I'll try deleteing the "octet-stream entry ". Am I to assume that I won't need it for any other operation? Thanks for the help.

It is the "Error Entry" causing the problem. Delete it, not required for proper function of Netscape.
