Havanese - Welcome to the Board :)

Boot into Safe Mode, scan with HJT and place a check mark against these entries and hit Fix selected ....

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {77701e16-9bfe-4b63-a5b4-7bd156758a37} - (no file)

    O23 - Service: VNC Server Version 4 (WinVNC4) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\RealVNC\VNC4\WinVNC4.exe" -service (file missing)

Reboot into normal mode and all should be well.

If you still have problems there is a full rundown on removing Trojan.Adclicker at Symantec

You should turn off System Restore which will delete your restore points which are inevitably infected, reboot and turn system restore back on.

thanks for the welcome ... it looks like a great forum and the help you give ppl is just super.

I did what you said, then I went back in to windows and ran hijack again and it still showed the last one:

    23 - Service: VNC Server Version 4 (WinVNC4) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\RealVNC\VNC4\WinVNC4.exe" -service (file missing)

So I uninstalled vnc and ran hijack again and now it does not show up.

Is there anything that I need to do before reinstalling vnc? I really need it for work.

As of yet I still haven't turned on system restore.

    Thanks for the help,

    The entry in HJT ....

    23 - Service: VNC Server Version 4 (WinVNC4) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\RealVNC\VNC4\WinVNC4.exe" -service (file missing)

indicates that the file is missing - that's all and that was the only reason to 'fix' it :) It is not a malicious entry so go ahead and reinstall - then turn System Restore back on.

If RealVNC works OK with the 'missing file' the entry is probably down to a rogue registry entry that the program generates.

    FYI
Just because HijackThis reports "file missing" does not necessisarily mean the file is missing. For example, I use Ethereal, a packet capture application, which requires a separate service called WinpCap, a packet capture driver. WinpCap has a reg value that references a .ini file for the remote capture driver so a user can create his own .ini file that specifies what the driver should do when it's used. Removing such a value using HjT would break the user's ability to utilize his .ini file in the future.

The "trick" in determining if the actual file is really missing is to try to locate it on the drive & to be aware of exactly what type of spyware did what to the system. For example, a home page hijacker may in fact delete a Yahoo Toolbar dll when it gets installed.

The plus side of deleting "file missing" or "no file" items in HjT is that a user can alwayd reinstall a program to regain its functionality.

I will reinstall vnc and watch what happens over the next few days.

FYI, I use Firefox, but last week I went to a website using IE and that site took me to another one that locked up my PC and after I rebooting that's when the viruses began...

Hopefully this is the last problem that I will have and I learnt my lesson.
