I have used search function and was unable to find any threads regarding this matter so i opened the thread. If this is a beginner question then bear with me for i am a beginner...I am currently using a tablet pc which came preinstalled with windows. For some reason i get two piles of programs which i opened up on the taskbar and is unable to get rid of one by right-click on taskbar and unchecking/checking an option. So for example, if i opened up an IE i would get two IE appear on my taskbar both linked to the same IE page i just opened. I am unable to remove the replicate program links from taskbar by unlocking the taskbar and shifting the program/quick launch etc areas around. I have scanned for virus' and adwares and was unable to find any...I reformatted once after this happened the first time and for some reason (I didn't install any new programs recently) it happened all of a sudden when i started up my laptop one day. Can anyone help me with this issue? Thanks in advance.

    Hey,

If you double click these double icons do they function properly?? If these icons do function properly, im perplexed, if not you could possibly try restarting explorer. Sometimes my taskbar acts funny by displaying double icons also but the second icon won't function properly when i double click it nothing happens.

    Here how to restart explorer:

Bring up the task manager by pressing ctrl + alt + del

    Navigate to the process tab

Search through the processes until you find "explorer.exe "

    Now end the explorer.exe process

Now explorer is going to shutdown and everyhthing is going to vanish except for open applications

Finally go to File > Run

Type "Explorer.exe" or "C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe" either way is going to restart explorer and the taskbar should updated with only the proper applications.

    Hope this works,
