Double clicking folder opens new window

All of a sudden when I double click a folder in windows explorer, that folder opens in a new window rather than the current window (sometimes). Seems to be random. I still have the option "Open Each Folder in Same Window" in folder options.

I tried resetting the option in controlpanel->folder option, that did not help.

 

That seems to have fixed it! In the meantime, I found a great free replacement for windows explorer:
