 I've just reinstalled Windows 7 on my son's machine and now when he (or anyone) double-clicks on a PDF file, a page of computer code appears. When viewed through Adobe Reader it's page perfect. What haven't I done?

Do you have PDF files automatically opening with Adobe in your file associations? Windows 7 may be having the PDF files opening with another program automatically. Maybe not, but I start there.

When you double click the pdf files, in which program do they open ?

rsinfo asks the right question. To check, type default programs in your Start menu's search box, and click the link on your Start menu for the Default Programs program (not the control panel item). Next click Associate a file type or protocol with a program. Scroll down to the .pdf association.

You can see what it is set at, and use the Change Program button to change the association.
