Don't get the Internet Security Essentials bug

Whatever you do, don't get the Internet Security Essentials bug.

Today my wife was doing some on-line shopping and suddenly all sorts of warnings appeared. Turns out her laptop got attacked by the Internet Security Essentials bug. The warnings offered to fix it, but it turns out the included fixer is a fake, and not a free fake. I worked for over an hour running different scans and cleanups, but each time the bug would return. And to further complicate things, it wouldn't let me get on-line to get any help.

Switching to using my desktop computer, a Google search came up with a fix. I restarted the laptop in Safe Mode, ran Malwarebytes' AntiMalware program, and it found 782 files, folders and Registry entries infected!!! Quarantined them all, removed them all, cleaned up everything, restarted in Normal Mode. No more bug. But I couldn't get on-line. The bug had turned off the laptop's wireless LAN connection. Corrected that and now everything seems back to normal.

Save yourself the trouble. Don't get that bug.
