I installed Vista on my G drive. I have an ASUS A8N-e board that accepts SATA as well as EIDE drives. My SATA is my primary, a 74Raptor that has my XP installation. D: and E: are DVD drives. F: is a 160 gig IDE. G: is a 120gig IDE.
Both F and G are identical in that I simply pulled the 160gig from a previously owned Dell Dimension. Prior to that, the 120gig resided in the same Dell Dimension. I Symantec "Ghosted" to 120 onto the 160, pulled the 120 and let it sit on the shelf. I then bought the ASUS based machine with the 74gig raptor(used). I put the 160gig in to have more space for MP3 files, etc. When I decided to install and give VISTA a try, I installed the 120gig and put VISTA on it. This 120gig already had a perfectly good XP installation, but was irrelevant as I no longer owned the Dell. I had to disconnect the SATA, the 160gig IDE, redesignated the 120 as master on IDE channel 0. When VISTA looked to be successfully installed, I put everything back as previous: The 74gig RAPTOR as primary, the 160gig as master on IDE channel 0, and the 120gig as slave on the same ribbon cable.
Strangely, when I cold boot, I get a multiboot screen of sorts, defaulting to VISTA, and if I don't do anything, it boots to VISTA. If I "catch" it and select "previous older version of windows" or words to that effect, it goes through POST again and still ends up in VISTA. The only way for me to get to my original XP installation, is to press F8(select boot menu), and then select the 74gig Raptor. I can live with this.
However, from within VISTA, under my computer, the 120gig drive is designated C:, the 160gig is F:, and the 74gig RAPTOR is drive G. If I boot into XP, the 74gig Raptor is now C:, the 160 is still F:, and the 120 is now G:
This is a roundabout way of asking- where do I drag and drop the downloaded
AVG7.5, the adaware, and the regseeker to, so that they will now work from within VISTA? Also-are they ok to run under VISTA? Looking at the 120 gig drive, which I know has the VISTA installation, under windows explorer, it is not immediately clear where, or into which folder I should place the files.

My suggestion, if you no longer own the "system ", extract/backup your data from the drive and format it.

After that, run a repair installation of Vista, that should(?) straighten out the boot information.

Switching drives will confuse any boot information (multiple boot).

The latest version of AVG is working fine for me on Vista, then again, I only use antivirus as a "tool ".

Complex programs cannot be "dragged and dropped ", they need to be uninstalled and reinstalled.
