I know when I was using Windows 98 I could useTweal UI to stop others from seeing which documents I had last opened in the start menu.

Now I am running Windows 2000 pro and don't seem to have that option available. Does someone know something I don't?

    Cheers

You can do this no problem. You actually have 4 possible configurations to choose from. You can Remove the documents folder completely, You can have it not add recent documents to the list but keep the folder on start menu, you can have it clear recent documents when you restart windows, or limit the number of recent documents to display.

All these settings are made in the registry and any of the above 4 options take place in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

Add 1 of the following Values depending on configuration you choose:

    Remove the Documents folder completely:

    DWORD VALUE NAME: NoRecentDocsMenu
    Possible Values: 0=display and 1=remove

Don't add files to documents folder, but leave it displayed

    DWORD VALUE NAME: NoRecentDocsHistory
Possible Values: 0=add them and 1=don't add them

Clear documents list when windows restarts

    DWORD VALUE NAME: ClearRecentDocsOnExit
Possbile Values: 0=don't clear and 1=clear

Number of docs to display in folder

    DWORD VALUE: MaxRecentDocs
Value: Enter max number of docs to display, default is 15

    Enjoy!

If you don't feel comfortable editing the registry, you can download and install a version of TweakUI that is compatible with Windows 2000 here.
