hi guys i dont know if you can help me......

i am creating handouts for students regarding mail merge.

In text books and other hand outs i have seen screen shots of dialogue boxes to illustrate drop downs, menus etc.

How can i incorporate a dialogue or warning box into my document? To show the student exactly what it will look like?

The dialogue boxes i have do not give me any options to use them in any way (move or close is all) i am at a real loss!!

i hope someone has some ideas!
    :( :( :( :(

Hit the print screen key. Paste into Paint. Cut it down to size. Copy and paste it inot the doc.

If you just want to copy a picture of the dialog box into your document, make the box active by clicking on the bar on the top of the box, then use the ALT+Print Screen key to copy to your clipboard, then you can paste the picture into your document.

If you want the box to be active in your document, that's another problem someone else maybe can help you with.

Are the dialog boxes you want to copy part of a standard windows application or custom ones you have made. If you could tell us where to find them we can try to copy to a word document to see what happens and let you know our results.

when you go into mail merge in word, you get a dialogue box that says create data source etc. with drop downs enabling you to open source make new source etc.

    that is all i want!

also when you actually get to merge the information there is another box that enables you to use a drop down to choose the size of labels that you want to use. These are the types of boxes i need. They are just standard windows dialogue boxes.

Hi again: OK I went into Word, Tools>Mail Merge and got the dialog box. Then I used the Alt+Print Screen Keys (both pressed at the same time) to copy to the clipboard. Then used paste button to paste into a word document. Worked OK for me.

Are you pressing the Alt and Print Screen keys at the same time? This will copy the "active" screen, which in this case is the dialoge box with the title bar highlited to the clipboard. From there you should be able to paste to any Word/Excel etc. application.

You may not think anything is happening when you press those keys but if you will subsequently select PASTE, the content of the screen shot will appear in the document.

I'm not sure if I'm on the ball with what's going on here, but it sounds to me like you just want to get some information off of the screen and onto the handout. Yes?

I have always had problems with Print Screen, and a year ago I was introduced to some freeware called 20/20 while I was writing an instructional manual. It does wonderful screen captures - and you can select exactly what you want to capture - a button, an icon, a warning box, a screen - whatever. Some of my officemates have tried it too, and they are happy with how easy it is. I probably use about 5% of the tool (since there are so many things you can do with it!), but it's very helpful and very easy to use.

If this helps and you'd like some pointers on it's use, let me know.

I don't know if this will help but I used to use Hardcopy until I tried Zephyr's recommendation, Printkey. Now I use Printkey exclusively. It just works better for what I do.

BTW, thanks for the suggestion Zeph. :)

I'm glad you liked it. Prinykey 2000 is still available for free in case anyone is interested.

    I recommend it highly.
