I have been up all night messing with my PC and I clicked on Start/All Programs and happened to see Netscape 6.2.
I clicked on it and a whole new browser opened up. It was kind of neat seeing something different,

I also found somewhere that a new version 7.1 was available, but when I tried downloading Netscape 7.1, this stupid little screen kept popping up asking if I would like Fresh Download to be my default downloader.
I tried clicking yes and no and I still can't get 7.1 to download.

I don't understand why Fresh Download keeps popping up on Netscape only.
I have been usng IE ever since i got my PC back in January 2003 and while using IE, I had downloaded Fresh Download a couple of days ago, but it was the worst downloading program that I have ever seen. I automatically went back and uninstalled Fresh Download and re-installed Download Accelerator Plus (DAP) and have been using it, but now while being on Netscape, Fresh Download keeps coming up.

I tried going to Start/Search and typing in Fresh Download, but nothing came up. I successfully uninstalled that program on IE.
I tried going to Start/Search and typing in Fresh Download just to make sure that there were no traces of FD and it said that nothing could be found.

Why would FD be trying to manage all of my downloads on Netscape, but it is totally gone on IE? and why wouldn't DAP be used as my download manager, since I am running that program.

I would like to maybe start using Netscape instead of IE, but I'd like to be able to download the 7.1 version.
I still can't believe that I have never seen Netscape on my computer in 8 mon ths of use. I thought that when you bought a PC, that you either had one browser or the other, but not both.

Any help will be much appreciated.

    Hi Drag Racer7272,

How did you uninstall Fresh Download? Did you do so using the Add/Remove applet? It sounds like the app hasn't been uninstalled, if you are still getting a popup window.

I know nothing about Fresh Download, and so far haven't been able to find any uninstall info at their website. If I find something pertinent, I'll post the info.

    Thanks Romona for the information.

When I uninstalled Fresh Download, I first right clicked on the Fresh Download icon on my desktop and selected Delete and then I went to Control Panel and then clicked on Add/Remove Programs and then selected Fresh Download and removed the program.

When I first downloaded Fresh Download from Download.com's web site, I read where all of the other people had rated the program and it said that it came with an uninstall program or whatever you call it.

I have searched everwhere for anything that says Fresh Download and from all I can tell, Fresh Download doesn't exist on my computer.

The ony time that Fresh Download pops up is when I click on my Netscape icon and then try and download the version 7.1.
When I'm using IE and download games or any other programs, Download Accelerator Plus (DAP) always pops up for my download manager. I never see anything mentioning Fresh Download when using IE, only on Netscape.

I would appreciate any more information that you come up with.

There is probably a plugin for netscape that didn't uninstall. What happens if you type about:plugins (about(colon)plugins) in the location bar? If it lists fresh download, you should be able to just delete the plugin and restart netscape. The next place to look would be your mimeTypes.rdf file. Renaming the file, then restarting netscape to see what happens.

I believe the plugins folder is located here:

(the path may not be correct)

    c:\program files\netscape\netscape\plugins

the freshdownload plugin is called npfd.dll.

If you still have freshdownload installed, you might try going into options and removing the netscape integration, but this may not work.

Hopefully no registry editing is required... but try deleting the plugin first and see what happens. Close netscape before doing anything.

Sorry Freshdownload caused you so many problems. It really works great for me. I replaced Netscape's smartdown load with it because on my system smartdown would only work with NS 4.79 and not with Mozilla 1.4 and NS 7.01. Freshdownload works with all three.

It has an uninstall but since I like it have not tried to uninstall it.
