I believe this is only included in Netscape Communictaor 4.X

I want to see if it'll work with Mozilla or even Netscape 6.x I know one can have a soundfile play when a message arrives, but I don't have speakers connected to my PC as I use headphones (being hard of hearing speakers are pretty useless). Now I don't fancy wearing headphones all the time when using my PC or walking around with it on my head :p I like the idea of a flag in my systray telling me mail has arrived!

So if anyone has this, could you please mail it to me so I can try it out. Thanks in advance.

    Hi Dr.JB,

Here is a post on the Netscape 6 NG, describing a workaround for using NSnotify:

    1. Locate and run "nsnotify.exe" where you have Communicator installed.
    ( "C:\Program Files\Netscape\Communicator\Program\nsnotify.exe ")

    2. Right click on the new icon that has just appeared in the system tray.

    3. Click "Options" in the popup menu.

    4. Open Windows Explorer, and make a copy of "netscp6.exe "

    5. Rename the copied file to "netscape.exe "

    6. Go back to the "Netscape Mail Properties" dialog box.

    7. Open the "Launching Mail" tab and select "Path to Netscape.exe ".

    8. Click the "Browse" button, browse to and select the renamed exe file.

    9. Click the "OK" button.

This method uses Communicator's Mail notifier to open the Mail program in Netscape 6.x, instead of using Netscape Messenger.
    ------

    I haven't tried this myself.

I'll be glad to email the nsnotify.exe file to you, but I don't believe it's possible to send attachments with the Board email feature. I may be wrong! However, if you want to send me an email address via Private Mail, that would work.

    Thank you Ramona!

By the way, Mozilla froze when notification of a reply to my posting arrived in my inbox. I could access my other mail account inboxes, but when I clicked on the one the notification arrived in, it just froze. After rebooting, I tried again, and it still froze. Finally managed to read it in Netscape.

Just to confirm my statement that I didn't believe it was possible to send attachments using the Board Email feature:

    From the f.a.q

    What Are Attachments?

Attachements are not enabled on this board.

Shall we go back to pen and paper  Heck, it might have taken a few days for the mail to arrive, but at least the mail man didn't froze. Ok, a dog might have ripped his pants off....but we got our mail! Go back to newspapers for the news, cinemas for the movies and record stores for CD's instead of newsletters, mailing lists, streaming videos, shockwave, MP3's!! Go out and do some gardening instead of shouting at the PC when a blue screen appears and cursing Mr B. Gates  Whose invention was this anyway??? Thought the internet and browsers were meant to make our life easier....not adding years to my life, and I'm old enough as it is, thank you very much!

Now I've just gotta go and find that elusive MP3......where did I see it?

Oops, are we having a bit of a problem today? Love your Mail program? ;) Stick with 4.7x Messenger, and use Mozilla for experimenting.

A friend sent me this link for Build Comments:
    http://www.mozillazine.org/build_comments/

    This caught my eye:

    January 25, 2002:
DOM performance fixes for bug 118933 landed, there's a new windows system tray icon for mail notification (biff) that landed from bug 119344

If you downloaded the 1/28 nightly, you might want to revert to the 1/25 nightly.

    FWIW

Am downloading that right now! I think I'll stick to Mozilla and leave 4.7x Messenger out of the PC for now. Only this morning I did a clean install of Win98, and this PC had more stuff thrown at it than Mr Clinton :) Oooh, don't even want to think about my WinXP Pro installation on the other partition...tomorrow is another day. Just as well I'm on an ADSL connection.

Sent you another req to your PM box for another missing file

Skip this mail notification part! I have just tried it as per instructions above, and the configuration doesn't stay put. So for now I'll wait till the Mozilla team release their own working (?) tool.

You have the option of enabling or disabling the MS Agent.
    My wife likes it :D
    I don't

Quite right too! The less there are to clutter up the desktop, the better. I have enough distractions here, don't need any on here. Same with Office Assistant...whoever invented 'em wants shooting
