    Dear all,

We a existing Windows 2003 server which hosts several websites, DNS server, & Mail Server.

Now we are introducing new linux based server for mail solution.

So we will move are existing mail server to linux based server.

Now on Windows 2003 DNS server what all settings has to be done?

    1. In Forward Look Zone
MX records are there ex. mail.xyz.com
Its A records have XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX ip -> existing server IP.

    2. In Reverse Look Zone
We records of PTR & NS, and the IP series differs little bit
    i.e. xxx.xxx.yyy.yy

So what all changes need to be done on DNS server so the the mail Server will be shifted to new server.

    Thanks,
    Shri

I think all you'll need to do is change the A record for mail.xyz.com to the IP address of the new server and change the matching PTR record to suit.

Try it and see. It's and easy change to reverse if it doesn't work.

..... oh, and this does assume your users are connecting via DNS name rather than IP address.

Of course the other option is to set up the new Linux boxes to use the same IP addresses as the old mail server and simply swap them out.
