I'm trying to add another DC to my domain. Running 'dcpromo' on the second Server 2003 box yields the following:

The details of the error says

Any ideas or tips? What is the '.dc.' part of _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.doc.lan? I've got folders for _msdcs and _tcp, but nothing for dc and _ldap. The _ldap is a record or another folder in the DNS tree?

    Thanks in advanced.

You have a dns problem or network problem. Are you on the same network or have the right gateway configured on the new dc server?
try to stop and start the netlogon service on the domain controller already promoted to have sure you have the write svr records on the dns.
You must have the dc svr record on the dns. You must have one forward sone for your domain.

Yes. The gateways are configured properly. The new machine is even registered with the domain. The two machines are on the same subnet, can ping each other all day and are otherwise running just fine. I just can't promote the second machine to a domain controller.

I'll stop the netlogon service and restart it, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Some error logs might point you in the right direction.
