    Hi folks!

    I have a strange problem.

A week ago, I helped a friend of mine to change from one webhotel to another. we kept his domain name, and changed the nameserver addresses for it, so that it would lead to his new hotel instead of the old one.

Now, this worked without any problems, exept for one. When ever I visit the domain, I get redirected back to the old webhotel's index page, but everyone else I've talked to end up at the new hotel, like they are supposed to.

Why does it not work for me?

I contacted my ISP's support, and they told me to "try submitting our DNS servers in your network card for Windows, and see if that's the problem ".

I have no idea what they're talking about.

What am I supposed to do? Does anyone have experience with this? I need your help!

    / Frank

Two likely causes for this I think:

    Web cache
Your browser (or proxy server if you use one) has cached the page with the redirect. When you enter the URL of the page you are trying to access, your system see it has an old cached version and goes to that rather than the new live version. Try clearing the cache in your browser (post back with your browser details if you need help with that - e.g. IE6, IE7, Firefox, Opera etc.)

    DNS issue
The other option is that it could be a DNS server or system somewhere hasn't been updated to the new address. The DNS server used by your system is set in your network connection's TCP/IP settings. You can manually enter an IP address, so you could try changing your current one to the IP address your ISP gives you for their DNS servers.

However, before you do that, you can check which DNS server you are using at the moment by entering ipconfig /all at the command prompt. The listing will include the IP address of the DNS server. If this is the same as the ISP's, then there is no point changing it.

Of the two, I think the browser cache is the most likely culprit.

    Thanks for your reply!

Well, it's not the browser cache, that's for sure. I've already tested on different browsers on different computers. My friends on MSN from all over the world tells me they see the correct page, so it has to be the DNS thing.

This is unknown territory for me though. Would you mind walking me trough this? How do I change the IP address?

How long has it been since the change over? It can take 72 hours for the new DNS info to propigate to all the DNS servers.
Insted of entering the domain name in your browser try entering the new IP and see what happens.

Well, as I said in my OP, it's been over a week. If I type in the IP address, the one I can find at least, I end up at the new webhotel's control panel, as I should.
