    Hi there,

I've just installed a new game on my comp, "tony hawks pro skater 3" and when i try and run the game i get an "error starting program" message, which is "The D3D8.DLL file is linked to missing export DDRAW.DLL:DdEntry12" does anyone know how this can be resolved?

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the game but with the same error message appearing.

I have tried replacing the DDRAW.DLL with one i have downloaded, but when i try to replace i get "Error: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process. Cannot create C:/WINDOWS/SYSTEM/DDRAW.DLL

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Cheers

Did you try using SFC to replace the file?

Would this not be a Directx problem ?

    DDRAW is a DX file.

I just ran DXDIAG to make sure.

Also the file may not actually be missing.

I may be of just the wrong version.

Good point, but that should be in the system folder and he can extract a single file using SFC. Now, if the downloaded dll is a wrong version, that is another issue, which would probably produce the same error message -

I disregarded the "smiley" and the "dEntry12" appended to ddraw.dll, but who knows, maybe these are the "trucks" that propel Tony up and down his ramp. If all else fails, maybe it would be wise to soak the video card overnight in Mountain Dew or Cheerwine (for the NC boys).

    Hi there,

Billy Bob, you got it in 1, after i posted the thread i checked microsoft support site, and there was reference to directx so i downloaded Directx 9 and that sorted it.

    Cheers

    Thanks for the good report.

I hope I can also report some good news later.

At present I am cloning a 40gig to an 80gig. Using Western Digital tools.
