I would like to have two mp3 utilities installed on my computer (Win XP ). However, my problem is that they both make use of a dll file (NCTAudioFile.dll) and i think that both installations have a different version of this dll. My problem is that the last utility installed replaces the NCTAudioFile.dll of the other utility. Eventually, when i try to open the first installed utility, i will get an error message that this .dll file is not the right version. This dll file resides in the "System32" folder.

Is there a way in which i can have both versions of this dll file installed so that i can have both utilities installed on the same PC.

    Thanks

I think that's rather unlikely - have you looked for updates to the two utilities in the hope that the latest versions use the same .dll?

    Maxmangion,

I may be possible to put the required dll for each application in the same folder where the actual executable resides. Most apps will look for any needed dlls in the same folder where the program is launched from. If it is found, it is used. If not, then it will start looking in the directories specified in the PATH statement.

To make this work, install one app, move the dll in question to the application directory and then do the same for the second app.

    Hope this helps.

Not quite. Depends on how the API for that particular program was written. Sometimes the particular app in question will utilize the dll in the windows/system32 directory.

i've tried this suggestion but unfortunately to no success. Does anyone can recommend a good mp3 utility which has a trim function (i.e. removes leading and trailing silence in an mp3) so that i will remove MP3 Doctor.

    Thanks
