Hi all. I had to recently re-format my drive, as I posted questions here b4 about it due to mail & profile issues. Well, I re-installed NS 7.01 and I've been getting all sorts of DLL errors that I never got befor. This is the same version I have on 3 other comps including the old drive that I have on a comp and all with no errors.

The following are just some of the errors:

    JS3250.DLL
    GKCONTENT.DLL
    JSDOM.DLL

and one with XP somthing in it and Im not using XP.

    System info:

    Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.0.2) Gecko/20021120 Netscape/7.01 (CK-SillyDog)
    P4 2.4a 533
    512 megs ram
    40 gig drive
    Win98SE
EVGA nvidea GeForce4 MX 4000 w/128 megs ram

    Any ideas ??

    Thanks!

Did you do a Search to find out where those files were?
But, before doing anything else, is everything any reference to the old program gone. The profiles are independent of the program.
I have never done a reformat, so I don't know what happens. The best way is not to use any previous files/folders of the program. You should start with a clean slate, and use a download that you trust.

All 3 files listed in my post are listed for my printer assistant, HP printer. All 3 files have same version number as well. As far as any duplicates from past NS versions, no. This was a clean format, did not copy any folders/files from old drive.

    Basstracker,

    These errors:
    JS3250.DLL
    GKCONTENT.DLL
    JSDOM.DLL

are associated with JavaScript. Do you have JavaScript and Java enabled? Have you also installed the Sun Java plugin, Ver.J2RE 1.4.2_05?

The GKLAYOUT.DLL had several bugs associated with it, which have been resolved in 1.7.3. One user reported upgrading his mouse driver stopped the JS3250.DLL and GKLAYOUT.DLL errors.

Do you delete the XUL.mfl file regularly. This file can become corrupt, and could be causing the CKCONTENT.DLL error. I run Mozilla 1.7.3, and did a "Find" for GKCONTENT.DLL, and I don't have that file, only GKLAYOUT.DLL, which is located in the GRE folder.

If I were you, I would do an uninstall of Netscape 7.01, and download and install Mozilla 1.7.3, which has many bug fixes, and security updates, and a much more stable browser than Netscape 7.01. This will have no effect on your Profile...

    Basstracker,

Gee, I wonder why? So sorry, I should have said, and have corrected to Netscape 7.01, rather than Mozilla 1.6! Forgive the "Senior moment ".

Netscape 7.1 is much too buggy, and Netscape 7.2 has security issues, so this is why I'm recommending Mozilla 1.7.3.

You can download Mozilla 1.7.3 here: http://www.mozilla.org/releases/
Read the Release notes, as there is a wealth of information there.

Another kudo is that if you choose not to run the Full Installer, you can download the Zipfile. All that is necessary is to unzip the file to C:\Program Files. No install, and no uninstall. When you're ready to update the browser, all that is necessary is to delete the Mozilla folder.

Altho some users suggest a new Profile when switching from Netscape to Mozilla, I have never had a problem using the same profile.

If you use the Zipfile, right click and drag the mozilla.exe file to the Desktop and make a shortcut.
Right click the Mozilla shortcut and add the -p yourprofile name.
When you start Mozilla, it will find the existing Netscape Profile.

    Basstracker,

You can use the same Profile with Mozilla as you are using with Netscape. I would definitely back up your Profiles folder before starting the uninstall, and install of Mozilla. Safe is always better!

Mozilla has an option in Edit | Preferences | Navigator, for the buttons you want to see on your Toolbar. The Home button is included. Yes, you will lose the existing Home Button. If you installed this one: http://3rdhand.info/mozilla/home/ It will have to be reinstalled.

    Uninstall Netscape 7.01 using Add/Remove
Delete the Netscape Program folder located here:
    C:\Program Files\Netscape\Netscape
REBOOT YOUR PC This is so Windows can update the system's files

    Install, or Unzip Mozilla 1.7.3

I'll wager that you will be installing Mozilla on all the PC's once you get used to Mozilla. As far as looks, you will see no difference.

If you have questions let me know!

    Ramona
