    Hey people.

I download a DivX movies last week, thought I watch it today but to my surprise the movie is without sound! Im using Win2000 professional, Media player 7.1 with DivX 5.0, I even tryed using the DivX player (2.0 with latest update) that comes with the DivX bundle but still no sound. My question is this, is there a problem with my software or did someone actually make a whole DivX movie without sound ?

Btw, is there a software tool where I can extract info from a DivX movie such as sound codec, movie codec, resolution etc. ?

I'd be interested to hear what some of the replies are because I downloaded an AVI encoded using Divx and there is no sound. The guy who made it says he gets sound but everyone else that has downloaded this AVI does not get sound. We've tried installing all the codecs we come across but still no sound. My guess is your situation is similar to mine, probably missing some audio codec.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing, missing audio codec, but media player should notify me if this is the case, and it doesnt.
Im running the latest version of all other software and codec...

This is kinda why Im looking for some sort of program where I can extract info from AVI file, then I might be able to figure out what audio codec the AVI is using.

From my experience Media Player does a very poor job of updating codecs automatically. With the AVI I have that has no sound, it doesn't notify me that an audio codec is missing but if you look at the properties of the file, it says [unknown] for the audio codec. My guess is that if one of us finds the codec for our own file(s) it will most likely work for the both of us.

    :D

I've downloaded and watched several divx movies with no problems. But I had to use a divx player to view them. Media Player wouldn't work.

Shadowhawk, apparently AVI's can be encoded using Divx. I'm not sure of all the details but I have a few AVI's that need the Divx 3 or 4 codecs installed for them to work.

I've tried using The Playa for playback but the same AVI I have with no sound in Media Player doesn't have sound in The Playa.

shadowhawk : All my DivX movies use AVI extension.

Kimmi : I've tryed both Media player and DivX player - same result.

So I guess I basicly need to download all the audio codec's I can find and install then and see if that helps. A very technical solution I must say :)
