I would like Windows 7 to display thumbnail previews only for individual videos and perhaps pictures, but not for folders. I have gone into the folder options for Windows 7 explorer, and checked the box that says show icons only, and not thumbnails. This disabled thumbnail preview for everything, including the individual video files, for which I'd like to keep the thumbnails for.

Is there an option or a tweak to have Windows 7 show thumbnails only for those individual files, but not for folders? I'm wondering if there is a TweakUI for Windows 7 that will let you do this....

Be it files or folders they are all controlled by the same settings.

Unless someone knows of some software or a tweak that will differentiate between a file and a folder and display them under different settings I think you are stuck with it.

I'm not sure if this is what you are after or not, but I have Windows Explorer setup to show details only - from the More options dropdown on the top far right of the window.

If I click on a .mp4 file a thumbnail appears in the bottom left hand corner of the window along with all details of the file, size, frame rate, etc

If I click on the containing folder in the left hand pane a folder icon shows up where the thumbnail was originally.

The equivalent of TweakUI is Ultimate Windows Tweaker

Thanks for teh reference to Ultimate Windows Tweaker. I'll look that over as time permits. As far as your Explorer instructions go, two of the viewing options allowed for the pic/video files to have their contents displayed--but as was the case above, they forced the folders to have the thumbnail previews as well. The other options precluded this for individual files, as well as folders.

I'll see if that tweak program will be able to do the job.

Thanks to all who replied, anyways.
