This question is more out of curiosity than anything else, I don't have a specific problem (fingers crossed) as such with my desktop but could someone please try to enlighten me.
I have an 18GB hard drive (C: Drive) which is mainly kept for my operating system (XP Pro) and a couple a few other important apps. Agreed, this is not a large drive but I have a second, larger one which is used for most of my programs and documents.
When I view the Properties of this 'C' drive it is showing as having approx 8.5GB of used space and thus, 9,5GB free. If I then look at the Properties of the individual folders in the drive they don't add up to anything like the 8.5GB shown as being used. The folders I can see within the drive are :-
Windows @ 3,46GB, Program Files @ 830MB, NVIDIA @ 44MB plus a few unknown files which add up to an insignificant amount.
So my confusion is, what is the discrepancy between the reported (8.5GB) Used Space and the total of the folders listed above which is, let's say, 5GB max.
Any enlightonment offered would be greatly appreciated.

Your manual count does not include all files/folders - download and run TreeSize Free for an accurate answer. Run as Administrator to gain access to all areas of the disk.

Got it Pete, many thanks. 'TreeSize' was able to show me that majority of the unknown usage is System Restore. My curiosity is satisfied.
