I have a Sony Vaio Desktop using XP Home with 512 Ram.
    1. Developed a series of "little" problems and, in frustration, decided to restore Drive C "to new."
    2. Moved douments and some crucial files to Drive D.
    3. Did a restore of backed up files from D to C. (Probably shouldn't have done that)
    4. Now, looking at memory ..D shows 92.8 GB with 82.8 free BUT C shows only 13.9 GB with 4.58 free.
    5. I am running Norton Goback (and I don't have a clue...)
    6. One of my original "little" problems was that I couldn't use Window's restore
even though Goback was disabled (message - could not restore to point, etc).
    7. Norton Virus is enabled and run regular Spybot checks.

Does anyone have any idea of what could have happened to memory on Drive C?

    Thanks

    Jo

13GB is quite easy to use up these days...check how much disk space your windows install is using..mine is around 3.3GB by itself..plus any other files you may have installed under program files. Check the size of the page file (pagefile.sys in the root of c:) could be around 1.5GB or more.... sounds normal to me mate..

    Hello Jo and welcome,

Right click My Computer and click Manage.

    Click on Disk Management.

In the top half of the page: you'll see drive and partition capacity and free space. What is the capacitiy of the C drive?

    Regards - Charles

    Drives

    Hi Charles,

    Showing Partition at 5.01/5.01 free
    C: 13.97/4.55 free
    D: 92.81/82.78 free

I think I have been confusing GBs with RAM - supposed to have 512.

Used Mac OS 9 for years and memory was memory... if you had 128 and used 64, you pretty much had 64 left. But I can't find any reference to the 512 on this computer.

    I guess I'm probably ok.... (?)

    Thanks

    Jo

You look like you have one disk with two partitions -

You can check your RAM by right clicking on My Computer and selecting properties. You RAM will be listed there.

Your machine sounds normal to me...If you are worried about the hard drive space on c: under control panel, goto add/remove programs and remove anything that you no longer use...

    Hi Jo,

Ok, what raised a flag was your reference to C and D as drives and not as partitions, if that was the case, wanted to check if the C "drive" was really that small.

    Regards - Charles
