I am considering migrating my laptop fron Win98 to Win2K.

My HD is not that huge, just 4.2 GB.

How much disk space does a 2K install really need?

    TIA!

If you install the updates, 1 GB.

If you have a 4Gb hard drive, my guess would be the laptop has some age on it.

I suspect you won't be happy with the performance of 2K on that machine.

If you just want to play around with 2K, maybe OK. If you actually use the laptop, you will probably be better advised to stay with the current OS unless there is some compelling reason to change.

    Thank you Newt & Hex92!

I want 2K for extra stability. Riding 98 is like taming a bronco. Every month I have some new, like, issue.

My laptop has 96 MB ram and a K6-II at 333 MHz.

In the past I used Pentia (uh, plural for Pentium?) 100's under NT and while not quick, they were decently solid.

I do MS-Office work, rarely with files over 1MB, and little or no multimedia.

I understand that 2K has much better facilities for laptops and a pretty good HW recognition compared to NT.

I see little value in upgrading to a muscle machine I do not need - unless, of course, it's a prerequisite for an NT-kerneled OS!

    What should I do?

    TIA agn!

In that case, you should be much happier with 2K (stable, pretty good plug & pray, etc.) and the 1Gb Hex92 mentioned is right on target.

I strongly suggest NTFS rather than FAT32.
