    Hi,

I wanted to install a 2nd HD in mirror mode (XP 64 Professional) and used DIsk MAnagement to covert to Dynamic Partition.

Got told to reboot, which I did - now have Disk Error, unable to load operating system - any ideas how I can avoid formating the whole darn disk and starting again?

Have tried XP recovery, but does not see the C: Drive (only in Bios is it seen).

    Thanks, all help appreciated.

    Armand

Welcome to the BBS, I didn't edit your post, but please use respectable language. We cater for all ages and backgrounds here.

I avoid setting dynamic disks (like the plague). Read in the help section of Computer Management, but I don't think it is reversible. You should look at making a RAID (1) array when you install the operating system (at least that is the way I would do it).

The partition on the new HDD might have taken the C: drive allocation. The boot system will look for the first partition on the first HDD to find the boot files (HDD 0). Go into the BIOS (startup configuration settings) and see the way the drives are listed. You might just need to set the old HDD as first (drive 0). If they are SATA, you will (should?) be able to set which HDD boots first. Disconnecting the cables on the motherboard and reversing their connections might do the same thing.

    Matt
