I too have a problem performing this task.I do a control, alt, delete to go to task manager and shut down any running programs but when I attempt a defrag on C- drive a message comes back "your computer does not have enough free memory to defrag this drive.Quit one or more programs and defrag again. "ID No.Defrag 009.not sure what else to shut down to allow doing a complete defrag.

Or...programs that were run previously did not unload all of the memory they were using. Solution = boot in safe mode and run scandisk and then defrag.
