When I go to disk cleanup, I check "compress old files" which is 62,168 KB.
After I check to clean it up, it goes through the process, but when I go back INTO disk cleanup, it is still there? Not very computer savy when it comes to this "kind" of stuff. Help! :)

    Hello shansta and welcome,

Afterwards, do the files show as 0 KB? If so, that's normal.

That dialog shows you some system files, such as the temporary internet files - recycle bin, and does not delete files, only deletes the records. Same with other temp files, if they get reused, cleans them out, files still there.

    Regards - Charles

No, that is what strange, it still says the 62,168 KB. It is like it isn't deleting those files.

The "˜compress old files’ option does not delete files, it compresses them.

Disk CleanUp will look for files on the computer that have not been used for some time and offer to compress them to save space. They are of course still usable when they are needed again as they are automatically uncompressed when opened. With large files you may notice a slight delay as the file is being uncompressed.

By default XP will change the file’s text label from black to blue to indicate the file has been compressed. Have a look through the Windows files and you should see that some are now blue.
