    Afternoon all ......

Got a couple of queries, minor ones really.

    1. Everytime my system starts, as Windows kicks in, it automatically goes to running a disk check on my D:drive (purely a backup drive).
I ran a full disk check on the D drive over night, from within windows.
Re booted this morning and it is still attempting another check on re boot.
Q ..... can I turn this off (the scandisk) or do I have to let it run it's course??

    2. I began downloading a file from the internet some weeks ago, and purposefully cancelled the download (using firefox which has it's own download manager). As with all downloads, once started, an icon/folder is placed on my desktop (default download folder) with each file I download. Usually, when a download is cancelled, the corresponding icon is removed also. Only in this case it was not. I cannot remove the icon from the desktop, receiving a warning with each attempt telling me that the 'file is in use by another program'. The only other program it could be 'in use' with is firefox download manager which is never running at the time.
I even tried downloading the full file again but this simply put another icon on my desktop which i deleted once the download was complete.
Can anyone suggest a fix ..... anyone know which process I could disable temporarily to enable removal of the icon??

    Thanks in advance

    Seany

    Hi Seany

In answer to Q1 make an advanced search the XP forum for scandisk selecting thread titles only from the dropdown list below the keyword box. Plenty of info there!

Q2 - try deleting in Safe Mode. If that doesn't work try this ....

Download & install MoveOnBoot. Go to Documents and Settings > Your User Name > Desktop - locate the icon > right click on it > Delete file(s) at next boot.

BTW - guess you have cleaned out your Temporary Internet Files before trying to delete the icon?
