disconnecting from dialup hangs my computer

    everytime i disconnect my dialup connection, the computer freezes for about 20 seconds, with the connection windows on. It comes back to normal once that windows disappear.

    Anyone knows why this? and how to avoid this hanging?

    What kind of modem?
    I have had that problem a lot with junk modems.
